The 1980 Malaysia 5 Sen State Coinage KM#2 is an attractive copper-nickel Proof issue, certified PR69 by PCGS. Its architectural design belongs to Malaysia’s first sen coinage series and presents one of the country’s most recognizable national institutions. One side features the Parliament House in Kuala Lumpur, rendered with a tall rectangular tower, detailed rows of windows and the adjoining low parliamentary complex. Above it appears the crescent and 13-pointed star emblem derived from the Malaysian flag, while a delicate scalloped border frames the composition. The opposite side displays a large central numeral 5, surrounded by the country name, denomination, 1980 date and symmetrical hibiscus floral ornaments. The Parliament complex symbolizes Malaysia’s parliamentary democracy, while the hibiscus is the national flower. Designed by Geoffrey Colley, this KM#2 type was issued in copper-nickel; the 1980 Franklin Mint Proof variety had a notably limited mintage of 6,628 pieces. Its superb PR69 PCGS grade makes this a desirable certified example for collectors of Malaysian architecture, national symbols and high-grade world coinage.
