The 1992 Malaysia 1 Sen KM-49a is an elegant silver Proof issue combining national flora with a distinctive symbol of traditional Malaysian culture. The denomination side features a large central numeral 1 beneath a finely modeled hibiscus, Malaysia’s national flower, with broad overlapping petals, detailed veins, leaves, a long curved staminal column and tiny anthers. The Bank Negara Malaysia name arcs above, while the divided 1992 date and Sen denomination complete the composition. The opposite side presents a traditional Malaysian rebana ubi drum viewed from above, with its broad circular drumhead, vertically ribbed body and projecting wooden supports arranged around the base. The minimalist design stands dramatically against the mirrorlike Proof field. The rebana ubi has an important place in Malaysian traditional music and communal performances, while the hibiscus provides a strong national botanical emblem. Struck in silver with a Proof finish and certified PCGS PR67, this unusual KM-49a combines music, ethnography, flora and Malaysian heritage in a highly collectible format.
