The 2003 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad is a .999 fine silver bullion coin celebrating Mexican liberty, heritage and national identity through one of the country’s most iconic designs. The reverse depicts the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing atop her column with extended feathered wings, flowing drapery and an outstretched arm. Behind the figure rise the famous Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes above a finely rendered valley landscape with fields, vegetation and distant details. The inscriptions include 1 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2003, LEY .999 and the Mo mint mark. The obverse presents Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle gripping a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus, framed by oak and laurel branches. Ten historic forms of the Mexican national emblem encircle the central arms, illustrating the evolution of this enduring symbol. A classic Mexican silver Libertad with rich national imagery, ideal for bullion and world coin collections.
