This Mexico 1 Onza “Viva Mexico” silver piece dated 1991 celebrates liberty, independence and traditional Mexican national imagery in .999 fine silver. One side presents a radiant Phrygian liberty cap bearing LIBERTAD, surrounded by long sun rays, with VIVA MEXICO and 1991 below. An oak branch and a laurel branch curve upward from a tied ribbon, symbols associated with strength, victory and freedom. The opposite side features a powerful Mexican eagle with fully spread, richly feathered wings, standing on a prickly pear cactus while confronting a snake. Oak and laurel branches frame the lower composition, while UNA ONZA, LEY .999 and PLATA PURA identify the precious-metal content. The liberty cap and rays recall historic Mexican coinage and the country’s independence tradition. With its mirrorlike fields, detailed national symbolism and unusual 1991 design, this silver issue offers distinctive appeal beyond the standard Libertad series.
