This 1990 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad, KM#494.2, is a classic .999 fine silver bullion coin celebrating Mexican independence and national symbolism. The obverse presents the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, as a full-length female figure with magnificent feathered wings. She raises a laurel wreath, symbolizing victory, while broken chains hang from her other hand as an emblem of freedom. Flowing drapery surrounds the figure, with the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl forming the mountainous landscape behind. The design includes 1 ONZA, PLATA PURA, the Mexican Mint mark, 1990 date, MEXICO and LEY .999. The reverse features Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle with spread wings grasping a serpent while standing on a prickly pear cactus, framed below by oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon. The surrounding national legend completes this iconic composition. This early-style Libertad combines independence, wildlife, landscape and heraldic themes in one highly collectible Mexican bullion issue.
