This 2006 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad, KM#639, is a magnificent Proof silver bullion coin celebrating Mexican independence, national identity and historic symbolism. The obverse features the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing atop her monumental column with wings dramatically extended. Behind her rise the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, while the inscriptions identify the 2006 date, 1 Onza Plata Pura and .999 silver fineness, together with the Mexican Mint mark. The reverse displays Mexico’s current national coat of arms at the center: an eagle grasping a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus, surrounded by ten historic variations of the Mexican eagle emblem and the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. The Libertad series is one of Mexico’s best-known bullion programs, combining precious metal with imagery rooted in the nation’s history and independence. Its deeply mirrored Proof fields and intricate heraldic details make this 2006 KM#639 issue especially attractive for collectors of Mexican silver, national symbols and world bullion coinage.
