This 2004 Mexico 100 Pesos x 2 set, KM-736, honors the State of Quintana Roo as part of the first edition celebrating the 180th Anniversary of the Mexican Federation. The bimetallic coins feature .925 silver centers surrounded by aluminium-bronze rings. The obverse presents Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle with spread wings grasping a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus, complemented by oak and laurel branches and the national legend. The reverse features the distinctive Quintana Roo coat of arms, with a rising sun above a shield divided into symbolic sections containing a snail, star and three triangular forms. The design is completed by ESTADO DE QUINTANA ROO, the Mo mintmark, 2004 date, $100 denomination and dotted border. Issued by the Mexican Mint with a mintage of 249,134, these Federation commemoratives combine state heraldry, national symbolism and an attractive contrasting bimetallic design.
