Mexico 1 onza Libertad Type 1 PLATA PURA KM-494.1 MS 65 PCGS silver coin 1987

The 1987 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad Type 1 KM-494.1 is a classic .999 fine silver issue, certified PCGS MS65, representing Mexico’s enduring symbols of liberty and national heritage. The reverse features the original Libertad design with the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, shown frontally with large feathered wings, flowing classical drapery and a raised right hand holding a laurel wreath. Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl rise behind her, while 1 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 1987 MEXICO, LEY .999 and the Mo mint mark complete the composition. The obverse displays the Mexican national coat of arms: a powerful eagle grasping a snake in its beak and talon while standing on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock, framed by oak and laurel branches and the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. The Type 1 design and strong MS65 certification make this early Libertad an appealing collectible for enthusiasts of Mexican silver, bullion coinage and national symbolism.
