Mexico 1 onza Libertad Type 1 PLATA PURA KM-494.2 MS 68 PCGS silver coin 1991

This Mexico 1 Onza Libertad silver coin, issued in 1991, is the Type 1 KM-494.2 variety struck in .999 fine silver by the historic Mexican Mint and certified MS 68 by PCGS. Its reverse presents the classic Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing frontally with large feathered wings, flowing classical drapery and a laurel wreath raised high in her right hand. The volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl rise behind her, while 1 onza, PLATA PURA, Mo mint mark, 1991 MEXICO and Ley .999 complete the design. The obverse depicts Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle gripping a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus with visible pads and fruit, framed below by oak and laurel branches and the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. Numista records 1,650,518 pieces for the 1991 Type 1 obverse/Type 1 reverse variety. The exceptional PCGS MS 68 grade adds strong appeal to this early Libertad.
