This 1994 Mexico 5 pesos silver coin celebrates Lintel 26, a remarkable Maya stone relief from the ancient city of Yaxchilan. The reverse portrays two richly adorned royal figures facing one another, with elaborate feathered headdresses, necklaces, earrings, patterned ceremonial garments, and intricate ornaments. Carved hieroglyphs appear above the figures, framed by a hexagonal border, stepped geometric motifs, DINTEL 26, 1994, N$5, and the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse features Mexico's national eagle grasping a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus, surrounded by oak and laurel branches, ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS, and repeating geometric decorations. Lintel 26 records a royal ceremony involving Lady K'abal Xook and Shield Jaguar II, reflecting Maya political authority, ritual traditions, and artistic mastery. Struck in .999 fine silver, this KM-578 coin is certified PCGS MS68. An impressive collectible celebrating Pre-Columbian archaeology and Mexican cultural heritage.
