This 1996 Mexico 1/20 Onza Libertad KM-609 silver coin, certified PCGS MS69, combines a compact format with one of Mexico’s most celebrated national designs. The reverse depicts the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing atop her monumental column with outstretched feathered wings, raised wreath and flowing drapery. Behind her rise the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl above the detailed Valley of Mexico landscape, with vegetation in the foreground. The inscriptions identify 1/20 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 1996, LEY .999 and the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse presents Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with spread wings holding a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus with visible pads and fruit. Oak and laurel branches tied by a ribbon frame the emblem beneath ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. Struck in .999 fine silver and graded an impressive MS69 by PCGS, this Libertad offers exceptional certified quality, rich national symbolism and strong appeal for collectors of Mexican and world silver coins.
