A new coin.
This 1993 Mexico 20 Pesos bimetallic coin, KM-561, represents the Republic coinage and features the distinctive Longer Stems variety. Its portrait side depicts Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in a left-facing profile, with finely engraved hair and facial features. The central portrait is signed HIDALGO, while the Mexican Mint mark and 1993 date appear beside it. The brass-colored outer ring carries the large $20 denomination above and an extensive wreath with long leafy stems curving upward along both sides, a key visual feature of this variety. The opposite side displays Mexico’s national coat of arms in the silver-colored center: an eagle with extended wing gripping a rattlesnake in its beak and talon while standing on a prickly pear cactus. Oak and laurel branches frame the lower design, with ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above. Hidalgo was a priest and a central leader in the opening of Mexico’s struggle for independence in 1810. Certified PCGS Genuine UNC, this variety offers an appealing combination of Mexican history, national symbolism and specialized bimetallic collecting.
