Mexico 2 onzas Libertad Angel of Independence KM-614 Bullion silver coin 1998

This 1998 Mexico 2 Onzas Libertad, KM-614, is a .999 fine silver bullion coin celebrating Mexican independence and national identity. The reverse presents the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing on the monumental column with one arm extended and flowing drapery in her other hand. Behind her rise the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, while cactus plants and the broad Mexican landscape add depth to the scene. The inscriptions 2 ONZAS PLATA PURA, 1998, LEY .999 and the Mexico City Mint mark surround the design. The obverse places Mexico’s current national coat of arms at the center, showing an eagle gripping a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus above oak and laurel branches. Ten historic versions of the Mexican eagle emblem encircle it, creating a remarkable visual history of the country’s national symbol. Combining the iconic Libertad design, substantial silver format and intricate heraldic imagery, this 1998 issue is an appealing choice for collectors of Mexican bullion and world silver coinage.
