This 1996 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad, KM-613, is a .999 fine silver coin certified MS 69 by PCGS, combining exceptional preservation with one of Mexico’s most recognizable national designs. The reverse features the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing on her monumental column with outstretched arm, flowing drapery and magnificent feathered wings. The dramatic Mexican landscape behind her includes the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes, rugged mountain ridges, fields, vegetation and small plants. The inscriptions identify 1 ONZA PLATA PURA, the 1996 date, LEY .999 and the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse displays Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with spread wing holds a serpent in its beak and talon while standing on a prickly pear cactus. Detailed cactus pads and fruits are surrounded by oak and laurel branches, leaves, berries and a tied ribbon beneath ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. The Angel of Independence symbolizes Mexico’s struggle for sovereignty and remains an enduring emblem of freedom. The outstanding PCGS MS 69 grade makes this silver Libertad especially attractive for advanced collectors.
