A new coin.
This Mexico 20 Pesos bimetallic coin, issued in 2000–2001, honors Octavio Paz, one of Mexico’s most influential poets, essayists and intellectuals, and is certified PCGS MS66. The commemorative side presents a finely modeled portrait of Paz beside his facsimile signature and the quotation “Todo es presencia, todos los siglos son este Presente,” with the $20 denomination, Mo mint mark and AÑO 2000. The contrasting golden outer ring and silver-colored center emphasize the portrait, while a geometric border encircles the design. The reverse carries Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle with extended wing gripping a serpent while standing on a prickly pear cactus, surrounded by oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon and the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. Paz received the 1990 Nobel Prize in Literature and became internationally celebrated for poetry and essays exploring Mexican identity, history and culture. KM-638 and MS66 certification make this literary-themed issue an attractive addition to Mexican and world coin collections.
