This 2003 Mexico 5 Pesos silver coin from the Ibero-American series celebrates the historic Acapulco Galleon and the maritime “Encounter of Two Worlds.” The reverse presents a richly detailed sailing galleon with multiple masts, billowing sails, rigging and high wooden hull crossing the Pacific between maps of Asia and the Americas, with the Philippines and Acapulco identified. Two standing figures, barrels, jars, a chest and trade goods appear in the foreground, while mountains and coastline complete the scene; the denomination $5, date 2003 and Mexico City mint mark are also shown. The obverse centers Mexico’s national eagle grasping a snake while perched on a cactus, surrounded by emblems of participating Ibero-American nations. The Manila–Acapulco galleon route connected Mexico and the Philippines for centuries, carrying goods, people and cultural influences across the Pacific. Struck in silver with a Proof finish and certified PCGS PR68, this maritime issue combines exploration, trade, cartography and national symbolism in one collectible.
