The 2002 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad is a .999 fine silver bullion coin showcasing the celebrated symbols of Mexican liberty and national identity. The reverse features the Winged Victory, the Angel of Independence, standing atop her column with magnificent feathered wings, an extended arm and flowing classical drapery. Behind the figure rise the legendary Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes above a finely rendered valley landscape with fields, vegetation and cactus. The surrounding inscriptions include 1 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2002 and LEY .999, together with the Mo mint mark. The obverse displays Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle gripping a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus, framed below by oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon. Ten historical Mexican eagle emblems surround the central arms beneath ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS, illustrating the evolution of Mexico’s heraldic identity. A classic Libertad with attractive surface character and strong appeal for Mexican silver and bullion collectors.
