A new coin.
This Mexico 1 Peso Republic coin is an eye-catching mint error struck dramatically off-center and certified MS 62 by PCGS. Made of copper-nickel, the undated piece preserves a large blank crescent where the planchet extended beyond the dies, giving both sides a striking asymmetrical appearance. The portrait side shows José María Morelos facing left, wearing his characteristic headscarf, with finely engraved hair, facial features and decorated clothing; portions of the denomination and Mo mint mark remain visible. The opposite side carries Mexico’s national coat of arms, with a detailed eagle gripping a snake while perched on a flowering prickly pear cactus, accompanied by oak and laurel branches and a partially visible ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS legend. Because the off-center strike displaced part of the design, the date and portions of the legends were never impressed. Combining Mexican history, national symbolism and a major production error, this PCGS MS62 coin has distinctive appeal for error specialists.
