A new coin.
This Mexico 500 Pesos coin from 1987 is a distinctive copper-nickel mint error, certified PCGS MS62, featuring a broadstrike that creates an unusually expanded rim. The obverse portrays Francisco I. Madero, a leading figure of the Mexican Revolution, with carefully engraved hair, prominent mustache, pointed beard and formal jacket. The inscriptions Madero, 1987, $500 and the Mo mint mark surround his portrait, framed by an interrupted decorative border. Madero played a decisive role in challenging the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz and became Mexico's president in 1911. The reverse displays the Mexican national coat of arms, featuring an eagle with outstretched feathered wings holding a curved serpent while standing on a prickly pear cactus with rounded fruits. Oak and laurel branches, a tied ribbon, ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS and a dotted inner border complete the composition. The broadstrike error makes this certified Mint State coin an appealing addition to collections of Mexican history and minting varieties.
