This 1981 Mexico 20 Centavos Republic coin is a striking mint-error example, certified PCGS MS63 and distinguished by a dramatic off-center strike. The shifted impression leaves a broad blank crescent across the lower portion of the portrait side and a large unstruck area above the reverse design, clearly documenting the production error. The obverse features Francisco I. Madero facing right, with carefully modeled hair, moustache, beard and formal jacket, accompanied by the Mo Mexico City mint mark, 1981 date and large 20¢ denomination, all displaced toward the upper edge. The reverse presents Mexico’s national coat of arms with an eagle, spread wings, serpent, prickly pear cactus, cactus pads and surrounding ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS legend, portions of which are cut off by the off-center strike. Madero, President of Mexico from 1911 to 1913, became a major symbol of democratic reform during the Mexican Revolution. The visible error, historic portrait and PCGS MS63 certification give this coin strong appeal for specialists in Mexican and error coinage.
