A new coin.
This 1988 Mexico 500 Pesos copper-nickel coin is an exceptional broadstruck mint error, certified PCGS MS64. Its expanded, uneven rim and displaced border make it a distinctive example of Mexican numismatic craftsmanship. The obverse features Francisco I. Madero's right-facing portrait, showing swept-back hair, a detailed mustache, pointed beard, jacket and collar. The inscriptions Madero, 1988, $500 and the Mo mint mark complete the design. Madero helped initiate the Mexican Revolution in 1910 and served as president from 1911 to 1913, becoming an important symbol of democratic reform. The reverse displays Mexico's national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with spread, intricately feathered wings holding a serpent while standing on a prickly pear cactus with rounded pads and fruits. Oak and laurel branches, a tied ribbon, the inscription ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS and a dotted border enrich the composition. This certified Mint State error coin offers an appealing combination of history and unusual minting.
