A new coin.
This 1977 Mexico 5 Pesos CuNi coin features a distinctive clipped planchet mint error and is certified PCGS MS64. The obverse portrays Vicente Guerrero facing right, with finely engraved wavy hair, sideburns, expressive facial features and an elaborate military uniform decorated with floral embroidery. The surrounding CINCO PESOS inscription, 1977 date and Mexican mint mark complete the portrait. The reverse displays Mexico's national coat of arms, featuring an eagle with spread wings holding a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus, surrounded by cactus fruits, oak and laurel branches, a ribbon and the ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS inscription. A curved section missing from the lower edge reveals the unusual clipped planchet error. Vicente Guerrero was a prominent independence leader who became Mexico's president in 1829 and supported the abolition of slavery. This certified Mint State example combines historical significance with a collectible production error.
