This 1982 Mexico 20 Centavos is a distinctive Republic coin with a mint error, certified PCGS MS64. Struck in copper-nickel, the piece shows an off-center strike that leaves a broad unstruck crescent visible along part of the rim, giving every surviving example of this error individual character. The denomination side features a detailed right-facing portrait of Francisco I. Madero, with his swept hair, moustache, beard and formal jacket, accompanied by the Mo Mexico City mint mark, 1982 date and large 20¢ denomination. The opposite side carries Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle with extended wings holding a serpent in its beak and talon while standing on a prickly pear cactus, with cactus pads, branches, ribbon and foliage below and the surrounding national legend partly affected by the displaced strike. Madero was a leading advocate of democratic reform and President of Mexico from 1911 to 1913. Combining Mexican history, national symbolism, a clearly visible minting error and a strong MS64 grade, this certified coin is an appealing specialist collectible.
