Mexico 10 pesos Republic Mint Error Broadstruck MS 62 PCGS CuNi coin 1978

This 1978 Mexico 10 Pesos Republic coin is a distinctive copper-nickel mint error certified MS62 by PCGS and officially designated Broadstruck. The portrait side depicts Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla facing left, with his characteristic high forehead, strong facial profile, ear and long flowing wavy hair, surrounded by the 10 Pesos denomination and 1978 date. Hidalgo, a Catholic priest and revolutionary leader, played a central role in launching Mexico’s struggle for independence in 1810 and remains one of the country’s most important historical figures. The opposite side displays Mexico’s national coat of arms in detailed relief: an eagle with layered wings and tail feathers holding a serpent while standing upon a prickly pear cactus, with cactus pads and fruit below. Oak and laurel branches with leaves and a tied ribbon complete the composition. The broadstrike error is clearly visible in the expanded, irregular perimeter and distorted border, giving this MS62 specimen an individual appearance created during the minting process. A desirable certified error for collectors of Mexican Republic coinage and unusual mint varieties.
