A new coin.
This Mexico 1 Peso Republic coin of 1981 is a dramatic off-center mint error featuring José María Morelos y Pavón and certified MS 65 by PCGS. The strike is strongly displaced toward one side of the planchet, leaving a broad unstruck crescent and creating a highly distinctive error appearance. The obverse preserves a detailed left-facing portrait of Morelos wearing his characteristic headscarf, with engraved hair, sideburns, facial features, decorated collar, tassel, Mo mint mark and the date 1981, including the Open 8 variety. The reverse shows the displaced Mexican national coat of arms: a feathered eagle gripping a snake while standing on a flowering prickly pear cactus, with oak and laurel branches below and a partial ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS legend. Morelos was a central leader of Mexico’s independence movement after Miguel Hidalgo. Combining an important historical portrait, unusual Open 8 date and major off-center strike, this PCGS MS65 error has excellent specialist appeal.
