A new coin.
This Mexico 1 Peso Republic coin of 1983 is an exceptional double-clipped planchet mint error featuring José María Morelos y Pavón and certified MS 66 by PCGS. Struck in copper-nickel, the coin shows two prominent curved missing sections at the rim, created before striking when the blank was improperly punched from the metal strip. The obverse portrays Morelos facing left, wearing his characteristic headscarf and decorated military-style garment, with detailed hair, facial profile, tassel, 1 PESO, 1983 and Mo mint mark. The reverse displays Mexico’s national coat of arms: a finely feathered eagle gripping a snake while perched on a flowering prickly pear cactus, with oak and laurel branches tied below and ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS around the rim. Morelos was a central leader of Mexico’s independence movement after Miguel Hidalgo. The dramatic double clip and high MS66 grade give this error strong specialist appeal.
