The 1985 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad is a .999 fine silver bullion coin from the classic early Libertad series, certified MS67 by PCGS. The reverse portrays Winged Victory with broad feathered wings, raising a laurel wreath in her right hand and holding broken chain links in her left, symbols of triumph and freedom. Her flowing classical drapery is set against a mountainous Mexican landscape, accompanied by 1 ONZA, PLATA PURA, the Mo mint mark, 1985, MEXICO and LEY .999. The obverse features Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle gripping a snake in its beak and talon while standing on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock above water. Oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon complete the emblem, with ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above and a geometric border around the rim. This particular example shows subtle golden-brown peripheral toning, especially around the obverse rim. Its high MS67 grade, vintage Libertad design and individual toning give this certified silver coin distinctive collector appeal.
