This 2002 Mexico 1/20 Onza Libertad is a .999 fine silver coin certified MS67 by PCGS, offering the famous Mexican Libertad design in a small fractional format and high Mint State grade. The reverse portrays the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing on her monument with outstretched feathered wings and flowing classical drapery. Behind the figure are the distinctive profiles of the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes and a detailed Mexican landscape. The inscriptions include 1/20 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2002, LEY .999 and the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Mexico: an eagle with layered feathers holding a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus. Cactus pads and fruits, oak and laurel branches, a tied ribbon, ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS and the patterned rim complete the composition. The Angel of Independence symbolizes liberty and Mexico’s struggle for independence, making this certified silver Libertad an appealing addition to a Mexican or world coin collection.
