Malawi 50 kwacha Soviet Writer Vassily Shukshin MS70 PCGS silver coin 2009

The Malawi 50 Kwacha “Vassily Shukshin 80th Anniversary” 2009 silver coin honors Vassily Shukshin (1929–1974), a celebrated writer, actor and film director. Certified PCGS MS70, this example received the highest Mint State grade. The reverse presents a selectively gilded seated portrait of Shukshin against an intricate rural landscape with traditional houses, rooftops, fields and distant hills. Above him are leafy branches with a gilded cluster of viburnum berries, while gilded conifer branches accent the lower composition. A book-like panel beneath the portrait references his literary legacy. Shukshin became renowned for stories and films centered on village life, ordinary people and complex human character. The obverse features Malawi’s coat of arms: shield with wavy lines, lion and rising sun, helmet, mantling and eagle crest, flanked by a lion and leopard above the Unity and Freedom ribbon. Struck in .999 silver, this MS70 coin combines literature, cinema, portrait art and selective gilding in a distinctive collectible.
