Malawi 5 Kwacha Lion Lioness Journey Through Africa silver proof coin 2006

The 2006 Malawi 5 Kwacha silver Proof coin from the Journey Through Africa theme celebrates the lion, one of the continent’s most recognizable wild animals. Its reverse presents an impressive wildlife composition with a powerful male lion standing on rocky ground between textured tree trunks, while a lioness rests gracefully on a broad branch above him. Their detailed faces, paws, muscular bodies, flowing mane and long tails are framed by bare branches and a distant African landscape, creating the atmosphere of a wilderness encounter. The obverse features Malawi’s national coat of arms: a quartered shield with wavy lines, heraldic lion and rising sun, supported by a lion and spotted leopard and crowned by an elaborate helmet, foliage and eagle crest. The 2006 date appears above the arms. Struck in silver with a Proof finish, this attractive wildlife issue combines African fauna, heraldry and detailed landscape art, making it a desirable addition to lion, animal and world coin collections.
