The 2004 Malawi 10 Kwacha commemorative coin features Soong Chu-yu, an influential figure in Taiwan’s modern political history. Certified PCGS PL66, it is struck in silvered bronze with selective gilding, creating an impressive contrast between the silver-colored border and golden central motifs. The portrait side presents a gilded bust of Soong Chu-yu in a formal suit, shirt and tie, accompanied by commemorative text, small floral emblems and a finely beaded rim. The opposite side depicts the Presidential Office Building in selective gilt, with its tall central tower, extensive multi-story façade, rows of windows, rooflines and architectural detailing. Floral emblems and the 10 Kwacha denomination complete the composition. Soong Chu-yu, also known as James Soong, served as Governor of Taiwan Province and became a prominent political party leader and presidential candidate. The combination of political portraiture, architecture, PL66 certification and selective gilding makes this unusual issue a distinctive addition to modern world collections.
