This 1981 Mauritius 10 Rupees silver Proof coin, KM-46a, commemorates the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, celebrated on 29 July 1981. One side features overlapping left-facing portraits of the Prince and Princess of Wales, carefully modeled with detailed facial features, hairstyles and formal clothing. The surrounding inscription identifies the royal couple and records the wedding date, 29 JULY 1981. The opposite side presents a graceful right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing an ornate jeweled tiara, with finely rendered hair, draped clothing and surrounding QUEEN ELIZABETH II, MAURITIUS and 10 RUPEES legends. Charles, then Prince of Wales, and Diana married at St Paul’s Cathedral in London in a ceremony watched worldwide, making their wedding one of the defining royal events of the era. Struck in silver with a brilliant Proof finish, this Mauritius commemorative combines British royal history, portraiture and classic Commonwealth numismatics in an attractive collectible.
