This Moldova 100 Lei KM-127 silver commemorative coin, issued in 2014 with a Proof finish, honors Dumitru Matcovschi (1939–2013), a celebrated Moldovan poet, writer and playwright. The reverse features his expressive portrait with swept-back hair, a mustache, jacket and tie. Beside him appears an open book with engraved text, accompanied by a leafy branch with decorative geometric motifs. The inscriptions DUMITRU MATCOVSCHI and 1939–2013 complete the composition. The obverse displays Moldova's national coat of arms, featuring an eagle with spread wings holding a cross, olive branch and scepter. Its central shield contains an aurochs head, star, rose and crescent, surrounded by REPUBLICA MOLDOVA, 2014 and 100 LEI. Matcovschi made an important contribution to Romanian-language literature and Moldovan cultural identity. This attractive silver collectible celebrates literary heritage and is an excellent addition to collections of poets, writers and European commemorative coins.
