The Malta 1 Lira silver coin of 1972 honors Manwel Dimech, a prominent Maltese philosopher, writer, journalist and social reformer. This impressive example is certified PCGS MS67, a high Mint State grade that highlights its strong visual appeal. The obverse features a detailed left-facing portrait of Dimech with moustache, formal jacket and high collar. A delicate palm branch appears beside his life dates 1860–1921, while the denomination and issue year complete the balanced portrait composition. Dimech devoted much of his public life to education, social reform and greater awareness of political and workers’ issues, becoming an important figure in Malta’s intellectual history. The reverse presents Malta’s historic coat of arms with a divided shield, fine vertical lines, heraldic details, two stylized dolphins with curled tails, foliage, ornamental mantling, mural crown and ribbon below. Struck in silver and preserved in PCGS MS67 condition, this coin combines Maltese history, philosophy, politics and portrait art in a highly collectible certified issue.
