Malta 5 pounds International Year of the Child proof silver coin 1981

The Malta 5 Pounds 1981 silver Proof coin is a charming commemorative dedicated to the International Year of the Child and the universal themes of childhood, friendship and play. The reverse presents four children gathered around a numbered hopscotch court: a girl bends forward to play while a boy watches, and another girl with ribbon-tied pigtails holds hands with a younger boy carrying a ball. Small international-style emblems, the 5-pound denomination and 1981 date complete the scene. The obverse celebrates Malta’s Mediterranean identity with a traditional fishing boat floating on stylized waves beside a stone quay. A radiant sun dominates the sky, while a cactus-like plant, shoreline details and mooring elements enrich the maritime composition. Produced in silver with a brilliant Proof finish, this expressive issue reflects the international movement that placed children’s welfare, education and development in the spotlight. An appealing choice for collectors of Malta, childhood themes and humanitarian commemoratives.
