Malta set of 9 coins 10 liras Pope John Paul II CuNi proof 2005

The 2005 Order of Malta set of nine 10 Liras CuNi Proof coins is a substantial commemorative collection dedicated to Pope John Paul II, his pontificate, Christian heritage and links with Rome. Each coin presents a different finely modeled scene: the Pope beside St. Peter’s Basilica with the papal tiara and dove; John Paul II blessing a ceremonial procession before the basilica dome; the Pope holding a crucifix beside cathedral towers; a full portrait with papal vestments; the pontiff praying beside a monumental stone wall; an ecumenical composition with seated Catholic and Orthodox church leaders and Saint Paul; the Pope standing at a railing beside an architectural medallion; and another scene showing him writing beside the papal coat of arms. The common reverse features the crowned emblem of the Sovereign Hospitaller Order of Malta with an eight-pointed Maltese cross, laurel wreath and ribbon. Issued in 2005 in Proof quality, this nine-coin set celebrates the legacy of John Paul II, one of the most influential religious figures of the modern era, and offers exceptional thematic variety for collectors of papal and Christian numismatics.
