This 1996 Marshall Islands 50 Dollars proof silver coin celebrates the Royal Hudson, an iconic Canadian steam locomotive associated with the golden age of passenger rail travel. The reverse presents locomotive No. 2860 in a detailed three-quarter view, with its streamlined circular smokebox front, headlamp, chimney, long boiler, running boards, cylinders, large driving wheels, connecting rods, cab and tender. A dramatic plume of smoke rises above the engine, while the railway track extends beneath it. The inscriptions FIFTY DOLLARS, ROYAL HUDSON and 1996 frame the composition. Royal Hudson locomotives became famous on Canadian Pacific passenger services, their name reflecting the royal designation granted after King George VI and Queen Elizabeth traveled behind one during their 1939 Canadian tour. The obverse displays the Marshall Islands seal with winged figure, radiant sun, palm tree, vegetation, traditional symbols, sailing canoe, ocean waves and ornamental chain border. A distinctive silver proof for collectors of Canadian railways, steam engineering and transport history.
