A new medal.
This Mexico 1952 Basilica de Guadalupe aluminum medal, Grove-P-202b, commemorates the inauguration of the monumental plaza at one of the country's most important religious sanctuaries. Certified PCGS SP64, it features a detailed image of Our Lady of Guadalupe standing in prayer, wearing a flowing robe and veil, surrounded by radiant rays, a crescent moon, clouds and a supporting angel. A small rose and the Latin inscription complete the design. The reverse presents an impressive aerial view of the Basilica of Guadalupe complex, showing the historic church with domes and towers, expansive paved square, pathways, fountains, trees, surrounding buildings and architectural details. Spanish inscriptions record the inauguration and the date 1952. The sanctuary honors the Virgin Mary's reported appearance to Juan Diego in 1531 and remains a major pilgrimage destination. This historic medal offers exceptional religious, architectural and numismatic appeal.
