This 1988 Mexico 5000 Pesos copper-nickel commemorative coin celebrates the 50th anniversary of the nationalization of the Mexican oil industry. Certified PCGS MS64, this historic issue honors the 1938 oil expropriation initiated by President Lazaro Cardenas, a defining moment in Mexico's economic independence. The reverse depicts the Monument to the Petroleum Industry, featuring standing figures, workers, raised arms, industrial machinery, a cylindrical structure with vertical framework, a fountain and sculptural pedestal. Inscriptions include CINCUENTENARIO, EXPROPIACION PETROLERA, 1938-1988, 5000, 1988 and the Mo mint mark. The obverse displays Mexico's national coat of arms: an eagle with spread, detailed wings holding a serpent while standing on a prickly pear cactus with rounded pads and fruits. Oak and laurel branches, a tied ribbon, dotted border and national inscription complete the design. An attractive certified collectible celebrating Mexican industry and national heritage.
