This 1988 Mexico 5000 Pesos coin, KM-531, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the nationalization of Mexico's oil industry in 1938. Struck in copper-nickel and certified PCGS MS63, it celebrates an important milestone in Mexican economic history. The obverse depicts the Monument to the Petroleum Industry, featuring standing workers, raised arms, industrial figures, a large cylindrical oil storage structure, machinery and a flowing fountain. The inscriptions CINCUENTENARIO, EXPROPIACION PETROLERA, 1938–1988, 5000 and the Mo mint mark complete the composition. The reverse features Mexico's national coat of arms: a majestic eagle with spread, intricately feathered wings holding a serpent above a prickly pear cactus with detailed pads and fruits. Oak and laurel branches, a ribbon, beaded border and national inscription surround the emblem. This certified commemorative combines industrial heritage, historical significance and distinctive sculptural artistry, making it a desirable addition to any Mexican coin collection.
