A new coin.
This 1988 Mexico 500 Pesos copper-nickel coin features a distinctive broadstruck mint error, certified PCGS MS65. Its expanded outer edge and displaced border reveal an unusual striking process, making it an appealing collectible. The obverse portrays Francisco I. Madero facing right, with carefully engraved swept-back hair, mustache, pointed beard, formal jacket and collar. The date 1988, Madero inscription, $500 denomination and Mo mint mark surround his portrait. Madero played a leading role in the Mexican Revolution and served as president from 1911 to 1913, advocating democratic government. The reverse displays Mexico's national emblem: an eagle with extended, richly feathered wings gripping a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus. Detailed cactus pads, fruits, oak leaves, laurel branches, a tied ribbon, beaded border and ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS inscription complete the design. Combining Mexican history, a striking error and certified Mint State preservation, this coin is a valuable addition to an error collection.
