This 1988 Mexico 500 Pesos copper-nickel coin features an unusual broadstrike mint error and is certified PCGS MS64. Dedicated to Francisco I. Madero, the obverse displays his right-facing portrait with carefully styled hair, a prominent mustache, pointed beard, jacket and collar. The inscriptions Madero, 1988, $500 and the Mo mint mark surround the portrait, while the geometric border reveals the expanded, irregular edge caused by the striking error. Madero was a leading figure of the Mexican Revolution, challenging the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz and becoming president in 1911. The reverse features Mexico's national coat of arms, depicting a majestic eagle with intricately feathered wings holding a serpent while standing on a prickly pear cactus with rounded pads and fruits. Oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon, a beaded border and the inscription ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS complete the design. Combining historical significance, distinctive minting characteristics and certified Mint State preservation, this coin is an appealing addition to any collection.
