A new coin.
This Mexico 5 pesos silver coin, issued in 1994, celebrates Lintel 26, a masterpiece of ancient Maya sculpture from Yaxchilan. The reverse reproduces a ceremonial stone relief depicting two richly adorned royal figures with elaborate headdresses, feather ornaments, necklaces, patterned garments, and intricate jewelry. A hieroglyphic panel crowns the scene, surrounded by stepped geometric motifs, the inscriptions DINTEL 26, 1994, N$5, and the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse features Mexico's national eagle grasping a serpent while standing on a prickly pear cactus, framed by oak and laurel branches, ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS, and repeating Maya-inspired ornaments. Lintel 26 records a royal ceremony involving Lady K'abal Xook and Shield Jaguar II, illustrating the artistic sophistication and political traditions of Maya civilization. Struck in .999 fine silver, this KM-578 coin is certified PCGS MS68. An impressive collectible combining ancient history, archaeological heritage, and exceptional numismatic preservation.
