This 1994 Mexico 5 Pesos silver coin from the Pre-Columbian series is dedicated to Chac Mool, one of the most recognizable sculptural forms of ancient Mesoamerica and closely associated with Maya and Toltec ceremonial traditions. The reverse depicts the reclining Chac Mool figure resting on a rectangular base, with the head turned forward, a distinctive headdress, large ear ornaments, necklace, patterned clothing, bent knees and decorated ankle bands. The 1994 date, Mexico City mint mark, “CHAAC-MOOL” and N$5 denomination accompany the sculpture, while repeated geometric pre-Columbian symbols form a decorative border. The obverse presents Mexico’s national emblem: an eagle grasping a snake while standing on a prickly pear cactus above an oak and laurel wreath, encircled by “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.” Matching ancient motifs frame the design, with “1 ONZA DE PLATA LEY 0.999” below. Struck in .999 silver and certified PCGS MS66, KM-574 combines Maya archaeology, indigenous art and Mexican numismatic heritage in an impressive collectible.
