This 1986 Mexico 5 Onzas silver coin commemorates the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City, presented as the “First Cathedral in America” and dated 1573–1986. The architectural side features an impressive frontal view of the cathedral, with its monumental twin bell towers, central façade, portals, windows, sculptural details, dome elements and a tall central cross, framed by the legend PRIMERA CATEDRAL EN AMERICA and Mexican Mint marks. The opposite side depicts a richly detailed Nativity scene: the infant Jesus surrounded by Mary, Joseph, shepherds and other figures gathered closely around the manger. A staff, draped garments, architectural background and a field of radiant stars enrich the composition, accompanied by Navidad 1986 and CINCO ONZAS PLATA PURA. The cathedral remains one of Mexico’s most important religious and architectural monuments, reflecting centuries of colonial history and artistic development. Certified PCGS PR67DCAM, this substantial Deep Cameo silver issue combines architecture, Christianity, Christmas and Mexican cultural heritage in a highly collectible format.
