Mexico 2 onzas Libertad Angel of Independence proof silver coin 2009

This 2009 Mexico 2 Onzas Libertad is a .999 fine silver Proof coin celebrating Mexican independence, national identity and one of the country’s most recognizable monuments. The reverse features the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing on the Independence Column with raised wings, flowing classical drapery and an outstretched arm. Behind the figure are the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, a detailed valley landscape, fields, agave and prickly pear cactus. The inscriptions identify 2 ONZAS PLATA PURA, 2009, LEY .999 and the Mexico City Mint mark. The obverse displays Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle holding a serpent while perched on a cactus, above oak and laurel branches. It is encircled by ten historical forms of the Mexican emblem, showing changing representations of eagles, serpents, cactus, wreaths and branches. The polished Proof fields and frosted relief give the intricate national imagery impressive contrast, making this Libertad an appealing piece for collectors of Mexican silver and modern world coinage.
