This 2002 Mexico 2 Onzas Libertad is a .999 fine silver bullion coin certified PCGS MS65, featuring one of Mexico’s most recognizable national designs. The reverse depicts the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing atop the Independence Column with raised feathered wings, an extended arm and flowing drapery. Behind her are the volcanic peaks of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, a broad valley landscape, fields, agave and prickly pear cactus. The surrounding inscriptions identify 2 ONZAS PLATA PURA, the 2002 date and LEY .999, accompanied by the Mexico City Mint mark. The obverse centers on Mexico’s national coat of arms, with an eagle holding a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus, above oak and laurel branches. Ten historic forms of the Mexican national emblem surround the central arms, showing varied eagles, serpents, cactus plants and wreaths. PCGS certification at MS65 adds collectible appeal to this classic Mexican Libertad.
