This Mexico 100 Pesos 1991 proof silver coin commemorates the Encounter of Two Worlds and the approaching 500th anniversary of Columbus’s 1492 voyage to the Americas. Certified PCGS PR69DCAM, it features deeply mirrored fields and strongly frosted relief. The commemorative side presents two overlapping globes representing the Old and New Worlds, flanked by the historic Pillars of Hercules crowned at the top and wrapped with the PLUS and VLTRA motto. Below is a maritime scene with sailing ships crossing stylized waves, while $100, 1991, the Mo Mexico City mint mark, ENCUENTRO DE DOS MUNDOS and the dates 1492–1992 complete the composition. The opposite side displays Mexico’s eagle-and-snake national emblem on a prickly pear cactus, surrounded by ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS and a remarkable ring of historic coats of arms and national emblems. This richly symbolic silver issue connects exploration, navigation, cartography and the shared numismatic history of the Americas and Iberian world. Its high PCGS grade and dramatic Deep Cameo finish make it an attractive addition to a world commemorative collection.
