This Mexico 100 Pesos 2012 bimetallic coin from the Numismatic Heritage series pays tribute to the provisional 8 Reales coinage of Zacatecas, an important chapter of Mexican monetary history. The silver-colored center recreates the distinctive historic issue with a mountain rising beneath a cross, the letters LVO within the central field, surrounding period lettering, dotted circles and a toothed border, preserving the rugged appearance of the original emergency coinage. The golden-colored outer ring carries HERENCIA NUMISMATICA DE MEXICO, the Mo Mexico City mint mark, date 2012, $100 denomination and a dotted border. The reverse presents Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with layered feathers grasping a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus with pads and fruits. Oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon complete the design beneath ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. Zacatecas provisional 8 reales were produced during the Mexican War of Independence, when disrupted conditions required regional coin production. Certified PCGS PL69, this Prooflike piece combines historical significance, distinctive imagery and excellent preservation.
