A new coin.
This Mexico 100 Pesos 2013 bimetallic coin from the Numismatic Heritage series honors the Republican 8 Reales and the fascinating tradition of countermarked coinage. The silver-colored center reproduces a historic 8 reales piece densely covered with numerous chopmarks and counterstamps, creating a striking field of overlapping symbols, characters and merchant marks that reflect the coin’s long circulation history. The golden-colored outer ring displays HERENCIA NUMISMATICA DE MEXICO, the Mo Mexico City mint mark, 2013 date, $100 denomination and a dotted border. The reverse features Mexico’s national coat of arms: a finely feathered eagle grasping a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus with visible pads and fruits. Oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon frame the lower design beneath ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. Mexican 8 reales became an important international trade coin, circulating far beyond Mexico and frequently receiving commercial countermarks in Asia. Certified PCGS PL69, this Prooflike issue combines Mexican monetary history, global trade heritage and an unusual historic design in exceptional condition.
